Sculptra is an injectable that is made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a synthetic material that stimulates collagen production to help reverse volume loss and fill in deep wrinkles. It was initially FDA approved to increase collagen production in HIV patients with severe fat loss in their face. Sculptra can also be used to help thicken crepey skin and smooth deep wrinkles.
We start to lose collagen daily when we enter our 30s. People choose to have these treatments done yearly as preventative measures, or wait until their 40-50s, and go through sessions every 4-6 weeks to achieve desired results. Results usually last up to 2 years.
It differs from hyaluronic acid fillers in that the results are seen overtime, with the best results 4-6 months post treatment. Although the results are slower, Sculptra provides the most natural looking results. This can be injected in the face and throughout the body including neck, décolleté, arms, thighs, knees, and buttocks.
